Intl. Urban Film Festival announces programs

TEHRAN, March 1 (MNA) -- The programs of 3rd International Urban Film Festival were announced during a press conference on Saturday.

The event is being organized in the format of a specialized festival, focusing on certain subjects to improve conditions of Iran cinema, the secretary of the gala Reza Dad mentioned.

 

A total of 1100 Iranian films were submitted to the secretariat of the gala out of which 360 films were selected for screening during the event which will be categorized in nine sections, he added.

 

The secretariat of the festival received 940 films from foreign countries. Some 18 countries plan to participate in the gala, Dad mentioned.

 

Of the Iranian films only 12 movies had gone on screen previously. The films are being judged beginning with last week and nominees of the various sections will be announced by Wednesday, he mentioned.

 

The festival is the combination of four events originally planned to be held separately, namely the short film festival, the documentary film festival, Tehran’s regional festival and the urban film festival, he said.

 

The festival will pay tribute to late cineastes Khosro Shakibaii, Rasul Mollaqolipur and Rasul Ahadi. Veteran actor Jamshid Mashayekhi also will be honored at the festival, he said.

 

Esmaeil Mihandust’s “So close Encounter,” Iraj Karimi’s “Magic Generation,” Habibollah Kasesaz’s “Death Carnival,” Bahram Beizaii’s “When All of Us Are Asleep,” Asghar Farhadi’s “About Elly,” Abulhassan Davudi’s “Homeland” and Puran Derakhshandeh’s “Eternal Kids” are among the films which will be screened during the festival.

 

“One City-One Glance, Sarajevo” and “One city-One Glance, Vienna” are two sections of the festival which will be held in Tehran from March 2 to 7.
